Day 1 Cusco – Kiswarani – Cuncani
We’ll pick you up early from your accommodation in Cusco and begin our journey toward the Sacred Valley. After about an hour, we’ll stop in the town of Calca to enjoy a delicious breakfast. Then we’ll visit the beautiful Ancascocha Lake, a peaceful spot surrounded by high Andean peaks.
From there, we’ll drive for about two and a half more hours until we reach the trailhead in Kiswarani, where we’ll get ready to start the trek. The ascent to Qweñacocha Lake (4,200 m) is gentle and offers fantastic views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains, including Mount Veronica (Wacay Willca), Mount Qolque Cruz (Silver Cross), and Mount Sawasiray.
After a relaxing lunch, we’ll continue for about an hour and a half until we reach the Halcajasa Pass (4,400 m). From there, a two-hour descent takes us to our first campsite in Cuncani (3,650 m), completing a full day of diverse trekking and scenic beauty.
Day 2 Cuncani – Ipsaycocha
We start the day early with a warm drink brought right to your tent — a comforting way to begin a day full of adventure. As we hike, we’ll witness the daily life of Andean communities, passing by locals tending their crops and herding llamas and alpacas through the highland trails.
After a well-earned lunch in the Chancachaca Valley, the trail leads us uphill to a mountain pass before descending to the peaceful Ipsaycocha Lake. This tranquil location will be our campsite for the night. The day includes around six hours of trekking, surrounded by rich culture and stunning Andean scenery.
Day 3 Ipsaycocha – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
After breakfast, we begin a two-hour descent toward the village of Patacancha. Along the way, we’ll be greeted by scenes of young shepherds guiding their herds and locals immersed in farming activities. Both Patacancha and Willoc are communities that proudly maintain Incan traditions, visible in their clothing and way of life.
Patacancha is famous for its naturally dyed weavings, while Willoc is instantly recognizable for its traditional red ponchos. As we walk, we’ll see locals working the terraced fields and caring for their livestock, offering a true glimpse into the Andean lifestyle.
We wrap up the day with a scenic train ride to Aguas Calientes, often considered one of the most beautiful railway journeys in South America. Upon arrival, a welcoming hostel and the comfort of a hot shower await us. In total, the day includes about six hours of engaging trekking.
Day 4 Machupicchu
After an early breakfast, we’ll have the option to either hike or take a bus up to Machu Picchu, aiming to arrive before the crowds for a more peaceful guided tour.
During the tour, we’ll uncover the fascinating history and mysteries of this iconic Inca citadel. Afterward, you’ll have free time to explore the site on your own, or, for those seeking an extra challenge, to hike up Waynapicchu.
Later, we’ll make our way back down to Aguas Calientes for a group lunch, followed by the scenic train ride back to Cusco, bringing our unforgettable Andean adventure to a close.
